Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a well-characterized, chronic autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. For decades, the standard of care has been lifelong insulin therapy to help regulate blood glucose levels in people living with T1D.
Zag Bio seeks to make a meaningful impact on the lives of people impacted by Type 1 diabetes. T1D patients still have insulin-producing beta cells at the time of diagnosis or before symptom onset. Our therapeutic approach aims to preserve insulin-producing beta cells to have a transformative impact on the lives of people living with T1D.

Beyond insulin, toward lasting disease modification

Our bifunctional antibodies deliver pancreatic beta-cell antigens to specialized antigen-presenting cells in the thymus, where they encounter developing immune cells.
Developing immune cells are trained to recognize the pancreatic beta-cell antigen, generating a new population of antigen-specific regulatory T cells (Tregs).
Antigen-specific Tregs leave the thymus and travel to the pancreas where they restore immune tolerance and halt the autoimmune attack on beta cells, potentially preserving their ability to produce insulin.
